Antivirus 10

We have not seen rogue antispyware applications for quite some time now, and Antivirus 10 comes forth as a rather unexpected surprise. Rogue antispyware applications masquerade as legitimate security programs that try to convince users their systems are terribly infected with malware and therefore they have to purchase the full version of the said program to protect your PC. Needless to say, this is a scam, and Antivirus 10 will not protect you from anything. In fact, you need to protect yourself from this infection right now by removing it for good. In this description, we will tell you more about the infection and how to get rid of it.

There are multiple ways to get infected with a rogue antispyware application. They usually get distributed via unreliable websites that are full of random pop-ups. For instance, online gaming sites, file-sharing pages, and other domains that might be hosting third-party content are vulnerable to malicious exploitation. They might have links to malicious sites or programs without really meaning to infect you with anything. What’s more, there are a lot of fake flash ads that inform users they need to run a full system scan to get rid of potential security threats, and sometimes users click them out of sheer curiosity.

Such fake online scanners usually display a list of errors that your system has, and then says that you can fix those errors with a security tool offered by the scanner. Antivirus 10 might be one of those security tools. So if you end up clicking the “Fix” or “Remove” button, the malicious rogue antispyware program arrives at your system. Then the program gets installed and launches its own system scan. This scan is fake, too, but it displays a lot of supposed issues you need to take care of. For example, these are few of the alerts displayed by Antivirus 10:

Windows Security Alert

Microsoft Windows has detected infection of Backdoor.Duuzer.B in your system!
This backdoor is remotely controlled by an attacker whos aim is to get passwords and credit card details from infected computer.

Warning! Your system is infected!

Last system scan found virus infections on your PC. It is highly recommended to remove them immediately from your system to prevent damage such as:

  • System crash and frequent failurs

  • Permanent loss of data and important documents

  • System slowdowns and Internet connection loss

  • Bank account, Facebook, Twitter data gets stolen

Now, if you were to click the Remove All button here, you would be redirected to yet another page where the program would tell you to subscribe to the full version of Antivirus 10. This is where the criminals behind his infection can actually steal your financial information because the moment you enter your credit card details, the criminals behind this program will be able to use it for illegal financial operations. Then you can be sure that your money will be stolen, just like your identity. If this happens, be sure to inform your bank or a credit card company about it, so that they would be able to block your cards and prevent further theft.

When Antivirus 10 enters your computer, it creates a new Run key called SecuritySoft in the registry, and so the rogue launches automatically every time you turn on your computer. Aside from the fake system scan and the fake alerts that the program generates, it may also open your browser windows and redirect you to various pornographic websites, trying to make more money this way. Luckily, Antivirus 10 does not block anything, so your system works just fine and you can kill the rogue process via Task Manager.

It is not possible to uninstall Antivirus 10 via Control Panel, but you can remove the most recently downloaded file that must have been the rogue installer file. After manual removal, you should consider scanning your system with a legitimate antispyware application because there is a very good chance that there might be more unwanted and dangerous programs on-board.
