Total AntivirusTotal Antivirus is a rogue antispyware application, which is designed to make it look like it is a reliable security program. Its interface proves that this threat is targeting computers which run on Windows XP operating system, because at the left bottom corner it has a screen with XP interface. At the same time, if you are running on other operating system, and you catch this rogue, it should be obvious that Total Antivirus is NOT reliable security software. This rogue is not the first in line. It comes from the same family as XPAntivirus, XPAntivirus2008, Antivirus 2009 and others. Total Antivirus is distributed via malicious websites which display notices that your computer has been infected with a whole list of malware. When you land in an infected website, you might even encounter a pop up message advertising Total Antivirus, and urging you to download and install the program. If you do so and Total Antivirus is installed in your system, the rogue configures certain changes so that it can load automatically and perform a fake system scan. During the “scan” it finds many types of malware in your computer – spyware, adware, backdoor, Trojans and the like, for example: Win32.Rbot.fm and Infostealer.Banker.E. The names belong to real computer threats, but Total Antivirus only uses them to scare the user into believing that his computer has been compromised. After the scan Total Antivirus shows this kind of message: Total Antivirus - Threats detected If you press on “Remove all threats now”, you will be redirected to the purchase window where you will be asked to fill in the blanks with your personal and banking information, so you could purchase the full version of Total Antivirus. However, doing that would only expose your bank account to the hackers, and you will be robbed before you know it. It is best to remove Total Antivirus altogether, whether manually or automatically, to prevent ultimate system crash, and to preserve your financial funds. |
