Clean This

Despite the best efforts of the online security industry to secure the exact opposite, many consumers continue to fall for the many misleading rogue security tools saturating the market, as in the case of Clean This. It also forms part of the elaborate Fake Microsoft Security Essentials scam which has entrapped many consumers. Clean This will try and put itself forth as a genuine security tool, but in fact it does not own any of its professed abilities and uses false info to con its victims. A prime example of this is detecting Unknown Win32\Trojan on the PC, in fact a nonexistent infection.

After reporting this, Clean This will prompt you to scan your entire PC with its fake software, and will then report that C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe is infected with Trojan.Horse.Win32.PAV.64.a. It will also claim to have restored C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB954600\update.exe and C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB954459\update.exe, among others. The rogue will prompt you to follow the on screen instructions to download its application and then restart the system to conclude installation.

The application taskmgr.exe was launched successfully but was forced to shut down due to security reasons.
This happened because the application was infected by a malicious program which might post a threat for the OS.
It is highly recommended to install the necessary heuristic module and perform a full scan of your computer to exterminate malicious programs from it.

If you think you can outsmart this rogue simply by trying to close the program, it will state the following message:

Current settings don’t allow unprotected startup. Please check your settings.

This is extremely distressing and frustrating, as Clean This will keep your PC from functioning optimally. There does seem to be a way for you to access your Desktop. Simply follow these instructions carefully:

1. Reboot the system. Clean This will not allow you to access your Desktop. When the system loads, you will find yourself presented with the Clean This start up screen, which will not allow you access to the Desktop
2. The only choice you will have is to select “SAFE START UP” Once selected, the Clean This scan will start
3. Navigate to and click on the SETTINGS button located next to SUPPORT. Now press ALT+F4 on the keyboard, and this action should completely terminate Clean This.
4. You should now find yourself presented with a blank screen. Press CTRL + ALT & DEL on the keyboard all at once, and this will successfully launch the Windows Task Manager
5. Once the Task Manager launches, click on the Applications tab, and click on New Task, and then click on Browse
6. Click on explore.exe in the Windows Folder
7. Click Open, and then click OK

You should now be able to access your Desktop again, where you will be able to access the Internet in order to download a solution for the Clean This infection. In order to restore the security of your PC you’ll need to destroy Clean This by using a genuine and powerful security tool which will help you in protecting your PC against similar future attacks.
