Quick Defrag

It would seem as though the developers behind rogue defragmenters are putting in much more effort into the aesthetic appeal of their products, in an effort to con their targets more successfully. Quick Defrag, which hails from the same cist pool as Smart Defragmenter, HDD Defragmenter and System Defragmenter is a rogue system optimizer unable to live up to any of its over embellished promises. As with any rogueware product, Quick Defrag one and only goal is to fleece its victim out of as much money in the littlest amount of time. Quick Defrag has no intention of benefiting any infected system, and will stop at nothing to successfully accomplish its main objective, even if it means being responsible for irreversible damage to its victims’ PCs.

Quick Defrag makes use of established modes of infection, making use of fake system scanners and illicit browser hijackers. These browser hijackers lures unsuspecting Internet surfers to its site, then exploits browser and system vulnerabilities in an effort to forcefully deliver the Quick Defrag Trojan to the system. Quick Defrag will not ask the PC owner’s permission before entering his PC. Boot into Windows Safe Mode required
Boot into Windows Safe Mode required to get into defragmentation module. The safe mode is needed for effective problems fixing. The process takes as little as 10 minutes. Once the process has been completed, the safe mode will be automatically turned off.”

Quick Defrag will then recommend that the PC owner install ‘powerful’ software to solve these issues, which means the consumer will have to fork out money and pay for Quick Defrag’s recalcitrant software first. Users infected with Quick Defragmenter will also find that they will not be able to launch any programs on their system. This is done in an effort to prevent the user from running a security application which could detect and remove Quick Defrag from the system. The following security messages will be displayed each time a user tries to launch an executable.

“Windows cannot find ‘winword’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.”

“Windows detected a hard drive problem.
A hard drive error occurred while starting the application.”

Some of these fake alerts will also appear from the Windows task bar, reporting about more system errors:

The system has been restored after a critical error. Data integrity and hard drive integrity verification required.”

It is clear to see through these extortionary measures that Quick Defrag is not a legitimate application, and that no correspondence received from it can be trusted. Users suspecting their system of being compromised by this outlandish rogue need to get rid of Quick Defrag before it damage their systems irrevocably. If attempting to manually remove Quick Defrag, users should search for the following processes and stop tGldgRksm.exe and 1584321.exe.
