Easy Scan

PC owners who value the health of their PCs will steer well clear of Easy Scan rogue defragmenter, a direct clone of the well known and highly despised Full Scan, HDD Low, Win Scanner, Disk Repair and Defragmenter. This might seem slightly dramatic, but since Easy Scan was discovered at the end of December 2010 many cases of Easy Scan infections have been reported by users who believed their systems were compromised. Easy Scan will do everything in its power to convince the user of its legitimacy, and that it is indeed a useful and safe defragmenter. This could not be farther from the truth, and users should use their discretion here and not fall prey to Easy Scan’s sly scheme.

Easy Scan will typically infiltrate the PCs of its victims with the help of sly Trojan and malware infections, which bundles themselves with other legitimate software downloads, and codecs and spam emails. The use of browser hijackers acting as a marketing vehicle for the Easy Scan is another popular method to forcefully and slyly help Easy Scan enter its intended host’s PC.

The presence of Easy Scan will remain largely secret to the user until it deems it the right time to reveal itself to the user by making use of various fake security alerts. These pop up messages were created with the express intent to cause panic among users, and to further instil a legitimate connotation to Easy Scan with the user. These fake alerts are completely without merit, and should not be trusted. Some of the more notorious alerts read as follows:

“Windows cannot find notepad.exe. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search. ”

“Critical Error
A critical error has occurred while indexing data stored on hard drive. System restart required. ”

As well as:

“Critical Error
Windows can’t find hard disk space. Hard drive error”

“Critical Error!
Windows was unable to save all the data for the file [random name]. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware. ”

“System Restore
The system has been restored after a critical error. Data integrity and hard drive integrity verification required.”

“Critical Error!
Damaged hard drive clusters detected. Private data is at risk.”

“Critical Error
Hard Drive not found. Missing hard drive.”

“Critical Error
RAM memory usage is critically high. RAM memory failure.”

While Easy Scan is running, it will also not allow the user to launch any program on the system. This is done in an effort to prevent the PC owner from running a security application which could remove Easy Scan from the system. Easy Scan will present the following message whenever the user attempts to launch an executable:

“Windows detected a hard drive problem.
A hard drive error occurred while starting the application.”-

Obviously none of these fake security warnings can be trusted. Users should never act on any calls to action contained in the Easy Scan fake security alerts. As with any other type of rogueware, Easy Scan is entirely dependent on user interaction to successfully attain its goals. If the user does not fall for Easy Scan’s cleverly told lies, the rogue cannot succeed in stealing the user’s money.

Easy Scan will generate random files in an effort to confuse users as well as their security software. This will make it more difficult to identify which Easy Scan files to remove. To locate the Easy Scan .exe and .dll files, open Windows Explorer and type in %Temp%. This will take you to the system’s Temp folder, where you should search for the random .exe and .dll files.

These files will have to be deleted if the user attempts to manually remove Easy Scan from the system. This endeavor can easily cause irreparable damage to your system and should only be attempted by skilled and experienced users. In order to successfully and completely erase Easy Scan from the system, users are urged to rather invest in a properly functioning and legitimate security application. This will not only get rid of Easy Scan, but will also provide future protection against similar attacks and parasites.
